Mohican Sailing Club
The Mohican Sailing Club is a non-profit cooperative organization built, maintained and managed entirely by club members. Founded in 1945, the purpose of the club remains to bring to the area the means and facilities for family participation in sailing and one-design sailboat racing. The club and thus its members are members of the Inter-Lake Yachting Association (ILYA) and are entitled to privileges at other member clubs.
All Sailboats are welcome at Mohican Sailing Club. One-design fleets at the club include Interlakes, Jet14s, Thistles, Lasers, Sunfish, and for our junior sailors, Optimist Dinghies.
Races are held each Sunday during the summer. Each member serves a Sunday as either Race Chairman or Safety Chairman. The club owns two pontoon boats for this purpose, one of which is equipped with a high-capacity water pump to assist swamped boats should the need arise. At the conclusion of the racing on Sundays, members participate in a potluck dinner. Other racing highlights include invitational regattas which the club hosts several times each year. These events typically attract competitors from throughout the Midwest and East Coast.
